The Caretaker Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Council, Hon Banji Okunomo has disbursed books allowance to students of Ilaje origin in tertiary institutions during the an event held at Igbokoda the council’s headquarters.
Speaking during the programme, the chairman disclosed government’s readiness to asphalt-lay the Igbokoda/Ayetoro road linking the riverrine communities of Ilaje Local Government Area with other parts of the state.
Meanwhile, the liveliness that pervaded the atmosphere and radiating on the faces of the students assumed a greater dimension when the Chairman further stated that the popular Igbokoda market, the largest market in the state will soon be completed and commissioned by the state Government.
Addressing students during the event, Okunomo charged the future leaders to always promote the socio – culture heritage of Ilaje Nation, that is ‘Eja Day’in their various institutions. He expressed his Government’s readiness at supporting this cultural event to always ensure that it is celebrated in grand styles. White charging the students whose chapters have got celebrated the event to go ahead and do it, however, commended the National leadership of the students for their spiritedness, commitment and steadfastness at making the programme a huge success.
The council’s helmsman, displaying high level oratorical prowess while addressing the students gathering, expressed the measure of priority the state Government placed on qualitative education. He further disclosed that Government was on the lookout for a suitable location to site a mega school in Ilaje land.
He however, admonished the students to be worthy ambassadors of the Local Government in their various institution as they serve as the mirrors with which outsiders will continually have a glance of the area. Okunomo urged the students to shun cultism, gangsterism, examination malpractices or any act capable of tarnishing the good image of our dear race.
Reacting, the students expressed appreciation to the Government of Ondo State for the kind gesture and implored the Government to raise the bar as this would go a long way at relieving their financial burdens as students. A total of four million naira was however disbursed.
