17 people have lost their lives in an accident involving an Iveco Trailer and an 18 passenger bus which happened at Omotoso in Okitipupa Local Government Area along the Lagos-Benin Expressway yesterday morning.
Coastal News authoritatively gathered that the accident, which happened around 7 a.m. Monday morning, was as a result of the bus with registration number XT 501 EKY driving against traffic.
An eyewitness revealed that the bus took one way and in the process, collided with the trailer with registration number XL 563 KWN and burst into flames instantly.
“13 of the passengers, including children were burnt alive while 4 others died as a result of serious injuries sustained,”
“The remaining three passengers were unconscious and were taken to a private hospital in Ore while the bodies have been deposited at the General Hospital, Ore,” He said.
Also, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ore Unit Commander, Mike Arinzeagu confirmed that the bus was travelling from Lagos to Okposi in Ebonyi State.
“We have always warned against drivers passing one way, apart from being against the laid down traffic rules and regulations, it is very dangerous,” He said.
