The National Legal Adviser of the PDP to be wary of the deceit of the opposition.
He stated this during an exclusive interview with reporter in his office at Abuja recently.
"l advise our members to be wary of the deceit of opposition who will come in sheep skin where as they are wolves. I will strongly advise that this time, unity is mostly needed in the party", he stated. Enjoy the excerpts
Q: What is your view about the exodus of leaders out of the PDP to Labour Party in Ondo State?
A: It is a bad signal to the party if we are really loosing leaders. But this people you are calling leaders, are they leaders of political charlatans or opportunity who think they have exhausted the opportunities in the party and like bird they have flown to being in another fruit bearing tree which means that people are not playing politics of philosophy, no idea but politics of chop and let me chop. That is bad for our democracy. So, in reality the names being paraded as leaving the party, I do not think the party should loose it's sleep.
Q: Do you think that the PDP can still take over power in Ondo State?
A: ln any election in Ondo State, it is only the PDP that can defeat itself. If the structures of the party are not weakened by inordinate ambition and leadership is responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Ondo State I suffer no illusion that the party will record resounding victory.
Q: The Mimiko- led government is a year old, what is your assessment?
A: l am not on ground in Ondo State now. I am engaged in National assignment, so I cannot claim to know what the government is doing. I will take no claim to know what the government is doing, so, I will take my time to appraise the government at the appropriate time. Assessing a government that is one year in office is not a thing you do on impulse, it involves coallation evaluation of data. At the appropriate time, I will talk about my impression.
Q: As the leader of the PDP in llaje Local Government do you think that the PDP can make it if there is election today?
A: I am a memeber of PDP in llaje Local Government and I want to see my self as one of the leaders of the PDP in Ondo State and Nigeria, if not for anything else by reason of the position I occupy. I am confident that our party is capable of winning election in any part of Ondo State but in particular in llaje local government. I do not under- rate the capacity of the Labour Party for electoral mischief, I count on the political consciousness of our people and the unmatchable achievement of our party in that area generally.
Q: What is your reaction to the Goodluck Jonathan being in the saddle as Acting President?
A: That is one of the best things that has happened to Nigeria of recent. For 78 days Nigeria was faced with a serious challenge of direction. The country appeared held hostage by those who are supposed to advance it's course. I think what the National Assembly has done is to liberate the country from the clutches of ultra reactionary, greedy and selfish individual around the corridor of power.
Q: What is your message for PDP members in Ondo State?
A: My message is for members of PDP in Nigeria. I advise our members to be wary of the deceit of the opposition who will come in sheep's skin where as they are wolves. I will strongly advise that this time unity is mostly needed in the party. Where ever we have PDP government, they should endeavour to deliver dividends of democracy to the people. Where we do not have government, our people should appreciate that bad times don't last. There should be dedication, commitment, hardwork, the time for change may be just by the door.
Q: What is your aspiration in the next political dispensation?
A: My aspiration is to remain a loyal and faithful member of PDP and to work with others for enthronement of PDP government in Ondo State.
