Dr Olusegun Agagu the former Ondo State governor clocked 62 year on Tuesday and marked it in a grand style. The event was held at Kola Daisi Hall, lbadan, Oyo State. Friends and political associates, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, celebrated the day with the geologist-turned-politician. Dr Olusegun Agagu felt quite elated for the grace to witness another year and he showed it as he was all smiles all through the event.
Those who attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, billionaire businessman, Chief Jimoh lbrahim. Others are Admiral Akin Aduwo and wife of Chief Rasheed Ladoja, former governor of Oyo State, Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja, among others.
Agagu whose tenure as governor of Ondo state under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was cut short by the Court of Appeal, Benin Division on February 23, 2009 which declared his rival, Dr Segun Mimiko as the validly elected governor of the state described the last one year of his life as the most touching and eventful.
The former Governor noted that the lessons he learnt during this period about human beings and their antics was more than what he experienced in the last 61 years of his life.
He said: "The last one year of my life has been the most eventful for me, during this period, I learnt about the capacities and capabilities of human beings, I have learnt more about how wicked and shameless man, even in high places, can be. I have learnt more about how people's morals and trust can sink in the quest for power; how fertile man's mind can be in fabricating lies against fellow man and how little the word trust means to some people. I have been haunted, harassed and blackmailed all year, but to the glory of God I have grown even taller through God's grace and the incredible love and support I received from a number of my friends."
Agagu recalled that his experience in the last one year was similar to what he passed through when his tenure as deputy governor of Ondo State between January 1992 and November 1993 was brought to an abrupt end by the military junta of the General Sani Abacha administration.
"As a deputy governor, my private study was filled with gift of all kinds in December 1992, but by December 1993 when we were forced out of office by the Sani Abacha government, I only received three greeting cards.
Obasanjo described the celebrant as an astute politician with good leadership quality.
He prayed God to spare his life to celebrate more birthdays with the former governor before making a quick exit.
He said: "Agagu is one of the men created by God to serve His purpose on earth and I can boldly say that he is doing just that. I pray to God to make me witness his 70th, 75th and 80th birthday. After that He may finish with me."
