PROTOCOLS
May I start this address by thanking the most high whose infinite mercies have sustained us to see this day may his name be praise.
It is by God’s special design that this festival holds every year since its inception despite the financial and moral constraint that beset it organizers annually. It show the love the lord himself has for us and we will not go bankrupt by reason of it in Jesus name.
The Arogbo Ibe cultural festival has symbolic similarities with the Passover feast of the Israelites as recorded in Exodus chapter 12. It was celebrated among other reason to mark their deliverance and freedom from oppression, servitude and slavery from the Egyptian. It also serve as a reminder that there is only one supreme being (GOD) who makes the deliverance possible. There are also the driving forces for this celebration.
From the bit and pieces emerging from the celebration it does not look as if we want to make a radical break from them. On the contrary, let us use them to fight our common enemies which have waged war on our land. These enemies are illiteracy, ignorance and disease. They must be confronted headlong. The bullet fired from the barrel of the gun of the enemy kills perhaps just one person at time. But thousands of people have been destroyed by these enemies. We must not relent in our effort to seek knowledge. Our children must also go to school. We must be care about some imported practices which destroy our children (that is a topic for another day).
The need to record achievement to make significant contributions to the development of our society should be the overriding considerations. This festival has assumed a national dimension and should be so seen and treated. It has gone beyond Local coverage therefore let us shift from Local thinks to global thinking. Much of the world already think globally. The largest and most popular festival are all multinational. Our lives are increasingly intertwined with those in other nations as we share fashions, entertainment, music, sports and even fast food. We are more connected than we realize.
We can attract development to this society by reason of this celebration. Let us use our connections and influence to bring friends and associates to donate projects and infrastructure for our overall benefits. Let us commit them to do thing for us as it being done in other Areas like the Argungun fish festival in Kebbi State.
Every Arogbo Ijaw man should feel highly trouble at the site of Arogbo metropolis during the rainy season therefore the need to save the community from further erosion is a joint responsibilities. The Arogbo beach need an embankment and sand filling. There are exciting days to be alive to our responsibilities. There is no substitute for one’s own culture and land.
Let the music play,
Let the celebration continue,
Let sober reflection also take its place in all these.
May God’s mercies and grace be upon our land as we hope for better years ahead.
Thank you all.
