President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday made sweeping changes in the country’s armed forces by replacing the service chiefs.
Also removed is the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna Onovo and the Director-General of State Security Service, Mr. Afakriya Gadzama.
The changes were announced a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission released time-table for the 2011 general elections.
Presidential spokesman, Mr. Ima Niboro, announced these changes in a six-paragraph statement in Abuja.
Appointed as Chief of Defence Staff is Air Marshal Oluseye Petirin; he replaces Air Marshal Paul Dike.
The new Chief of Army Staff is Gen. O. A Ihejirika; he was a former general officer commanding 82, division, Enugu .
Ihejirika replaces Lt. Gen Abdulrahma Danbazzou.
