The Ondo State government has reconstituted the board of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa and appointed the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, as the new chancellor of the university.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Ranti Akerele, on Thursday, said the reconstitution of the board would pave way for rapid development of the institution.
He said the 13-member board had the former vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University , Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Professor Funso Akere, as the pro- chancellor, while the state Commissioner for Education, Dr Pius Osunyikanmi and his counterpart in finance, Yele Ogundipe, were members.
The state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, had, last week, said the board of the institution would be put in place within one week, while the vice chancellor would also be appointed soonest.
It will be recalled that the operating licence of the university was, two weeks ago, withdrawn by the National Universities Commission (NUC), following the failure of the institution to admit students, two years after it was established.
Akerele, however, said the constitution of the board was in fulfillment of the promise of the governor.
According to him, the move had confirmed the words of the governor and the determination of the state government to ensure the development of the university.
The commissioner said the current administration was “irreversibly committed” to the growth of the institution and would ensure that it was developed to a world-class university.
He, however, said the vice chancellor of the institution would soon be made public, as the government was waiting for some clearance before the name was announced.
