Speaking at a press conference at Akure, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, former commissioner for Information and chairman of the party’s publicity committee expressed worries over the lack-luster approach of the Mimiko administration to the issue and the puerile explanation for the government lethargy.
The National Universities Commission had withdrawn the operational licence of the university for inaction, lack of a sitting vice chancellor and academic work and general inaction. In his defence, however, state commissioner for information, Mr. Ranti Akerele had in shallow emotional outburst hinged government’s complacently for about eighteen months on the fact that it wanted to “plug all drain pipes through which public funds were being siphoned in the university”.
Justifying the state government position further, Ranti Akerele posited “rather than be a setback, the withdrawal will indeed be an impetus to finalize arrangements to bring the university fully on board”. The university council the state government had persistently announced since the closure it to be constituted this week.
Where was this zeal and drive in the last eighteen months? why did the state government wait this long to think of inaugurating the Governing Council? why was the vice – chancellor, Prof. Adesomoju frustrated out of the place?, he asked there is more than meets the eye, he said. ‘’The truth is that Mimiko’s negative attitude towards the university was part of his general disdain and hatred for his predecessor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu and all what his administration stood for’’, Dr. Olafeso fumed.
Rather than concern itself with state administration, Dr. Mimiko had embarked on a vendetta mission which unfortunately has grounded state administration as every step of his towards pulling down Agagu had been counterproductive Olafeso said further.
He then warned that the PDP both as a party and stake holder would not fold its arms and watch the legacies built while it held sway in Ondo State be rubbished by a gang of political adventurers and then called on others to stand up to resist the current authoritarianism administration in the state.
