Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko was on Tuesday named the Life Grand Patron of the Carpenters and Furniture Makers Progressive Union in Akure, the State capital.
The State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Bankole Dawodu while presenting the award said that the governor was honoured with the award as a result of his administration’s outstanding performance in less than three years in office.
The governor’s people-oriented programmes and policies, he said, have started to impact positively on the lives of the entire residents of the state adding that he ought to be commended for supporting the Artisans in the state.
He however reminded the governor of his promise to establish a village for the group and further emphasised the benefits derivable from such initiative and he solicited his administration’s assistance towards the completion of the union’s building project.
Mimiko, while accepting the honour, thanked the group for counting him worthy of the award, assuring that he will not disappoint the union.
He commended them for their cooperation and unity without which he said they cannot realise their set goals. He also admonished the artisans to continue to maintain peace in order to enjoy the support of his administration.
While promising that his administration will continue to patronise them, the governor emphasised the need for them to perform their job within specification.
The governor who decried the rate at which the youths are engaging in commercial motorcycling, told the artisans that the state government will send interested youths to them as apprentices for training.
He also reiterated the readiness of his administration to grant them loans that will enable them procure important tools and machineries that will enhance their performance.
“We’ll not relent in our effort to support you to perform your profession effectively thereby contributing your quotas to the development of the state” Mimiko asserted.
