Dr. Mimiko’s avowed interest in quality education is brought to the fore with his innovative idea of shortening the gap between the children of the rich and the poor who are within the primary school age. Hence, his projection of ‘Mega Schools’ which have been built in virtually all the senatorial districts of Ondo State. Mega Schools, a brain child of the governor is first of its type in the history of Ondo State and will no doubt enhance qualitative and quantitative education that will advance the course of basic primary education in Ondo State.
Thus in three years, the state government has been able to establish expansive and state of the art Mega schools in Akure, the state capital, Oka Akoko in Ondo north senatorial district, Okitipupa in the southern senatorial district and other communities like Ore, the social economic hub of the state, Ile Oluji and Araromi Obu, while work is ongoing on the mega school project at Igbokoda/Ilaje. Alongside this giant stride in the education subsector of the state economy is the upgrading of the unity school in Owo to the tune of two billion naira by a government that appreciates the fact that teaching/learning process is only possible under a conducive environment. With the mega school models in Ondo State, Dr. Mimiko makes history as the governor who consolidates on the place of Ondo State as a solid player in the educational sector of Nigeria’s economy.
